SUBJECT: Grenfell: Go West: From St. Johnís to Corner Brook Ė Transfer opportunities within Memorial University
DATE: Feb. 3, 2010

Unique programs on the Grenfell campus bring opportunities for Memorial students in their second and third years to transfer to the west coast campus of Memorial University.

“We’d like to draw attention to the fact that we offer full bachelor degree programs, some of which Memorial students can pursue only on the Grenfell College campus,” said Dr. Holly Pike, principal, Grenfell College. Grenfell offers 16 degree programs in arts, business, fine arts, education, nursing, resource management and science.

Among others, Memorial University’s environmental science, environmental studies, general science and sustainable resource management degrees are offered only on the Grenfell College campus.

“Students in their second and third years who are interested in environmental programming, or who are interested in the multi-discipline general science degree, which is designed primarily for those wishing to pursue a teaching career, should consider transferring to the Grenfell campus,” said Dr. Christine Campbell, head, Division of Science.

Because of the campus’ location, students have the added benefit of environmental programming that is delivered in a natural setting surrounded by forests, stream and rivers, oceans and varied landscapes.

“With Gros Morne National Park and the Bonne Bay Marine Station less than two hours away, there are many opportunities to get hands-on experience through weekend excursions or lengthier field courses,” said Dr. Campbell.

Other programs which are offered only at Grenfell College include environmental studies, humanities, social/cultural studies, sustainable resource management, tourism studies, theatre and visual arts. In addition, Grenfell offers business administration, education English, historical studies, nursing and psychology.
