The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland invites the media to attend a special ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 10 in honour of Remembrance Day. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and will take place at the Merchant Navy Memorial directly in front of the main entrance of the Marine Institute’s Ridge Rd. campus.
“The Marine Institute takes great pride in honouring our veterans from World War I and World War II,” said Glenn Blackwood, executive director, Marine Institute. “We always hold our fallen veterans close to our hearts and it is only fitting we publically pay tribute to them each year at this time.”
During the Remembrance Day ceremony, wreaths will laid at the Merchant Navy Memorial by representatives of a number of groups, including the Marine Institute; Memorial University; the Company of Master Mariners; the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineers; CF-Naval Engineering School (St. John’s detachment); the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans Association – NL Branch; HMCS-Cabot; CFS-St. John’s and the Crow’s Nest Officer’s Club.
Naval cadets from the Marine Institute’s Marine Engineering Technical Training Program and the Naval Combat Systems Technical Training Program will also take part in the ceremony
A reception inside MI will be held following the service.
