REF NO.: 57
SUBJECT: Memorial students, faculty and staff to pitch in during Community Service Day
DATE: Oct. 23,2003
As part of the Celebrate Memorial 2003 festivities, students, faculty and staff at Memorial University's St. John's campus are invited to participate in Community Service Day on Saturday, Oct. 25. Participants will meet in the morning at 8:15 a.m. in the main lobby of the Science Building, located on the St. John's campus.
The various projects, which focus on the environment, senior citizens and families, were selected after consultation with participating community organizations. Through pre-registration, individuals will choose a project and commit to approximately three hours of service. Service options include green space and beach cleanups; tree planting; activities with children and families; minor carpentry work; and services with seniors.
Memorial's seven community partners in the Community Service Day event are: the East Coast Trail Association; Day Break Parent Child Centre; Ocean Net; Grand Concourse Authority; the Seniors Resource Centre; St. John's Clean and Beautiful; and Cabot Habitat for Humanity. To register for Community Service Day, see www.mun.ca/ccd/Students/sl/signup.html, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Celebrate Memorial, which runs Oct. 14-25 this year, is an annual festival of events celebrating the university's significant community presence and contribution.
