| SUBJECT: | Grenfell: Public lecture - The relationship between art, iconography and philosophy | |
| DATE: | Jan. 23, 2009 | |
Dr. Darren Hynes, Department of History, St. John's campus, Memorial University, will deliver a public lecture at Grenfell College entitled "Descartes' Image: Iconography and Interpretation." The lecture will take place on Thursday, Jan. 29, in AS378 at 7:30 p.m.
This promises to be an engaging lecture on the relationship between art, iconography and philosophy. Dr. Hynes will take us through an investigation of the many ways in which Descartes has been depicted in art and in imagery. These depictions have actually influenced our understanding of his philosophy, a fact that has great significance because Descartes' ideas have exercised an enormous impact on the gestation and development of the modern world.
