The public is invited to attend a lecture by Memorial alumnus Dr. Will C. van den Hoonaard from the Department of Sociology at the University of New Brunswick. Dr. van den Hoonaard will talk about the expansion of medical ethics review requirements around the globe and the implications for the burgeoning field of individual and community health and well being in the social sciences. Of specific interest to Dr. van den Hoonaard is the potential clash between the qualitative research favoured by social scientists and the more traditional science driven ‘biomedical model’.
The Seduction of Ethics: the Transformation of the Social Sciences through Ethics Review takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Inco Innovation Centre, room IIC-2014. Parking is available in Lot 18. The lecture is sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research.
