SUBJECT: High-tech career centre and video-conferencing facilities open at Memorial University
DATE: June 13
Members of the Board of Directors of The Counselling Foundation of Canada will be on hand at Memorial's St. John's campus on June 16, 2003, to officially open a high-tech career centre. The centre, part of the department of Career Development and Experiential Learning has been transformed and includes 12 new computers, an audio-visual projector and a video-conferencing suite. These facilities will allow the university, its students and alumni to connect provincially, nationally and internationally via video conferencing and the internet. The Counselling Foundation of Canada has provided more than $1 million over five years for infrastructure and support services.
"This is an important moment for the university and it students," said Robert Shea, director of the Department of Career Development and Experiential Learning. "With the facilities and equipment made possible by the foundation, now more than ever our students can be confident that the services available at Memorial University are among the best in the country."
Speaking on behalf of the board of directors of The Counselling Foundation of Canada, Donald Lawson said, "We are pleased to have provided the money that has made this transformation possible and look forward to hearing about the positive impact our investment in Memorial has had."
The centre is available to both students and alumni looking for information on career development, planning and employment opportunities. It is also available to employers looking to hire Memorial students or alumni.
The Counselling Foundation of Canada focuses its charitable grant making on the creation and enrichment of programmes and services which aid individuals of all ages, thus enabling them to improve their lifestyles and make a more effective contribution to their communities.
