The president of Memorial University will be visiting parts of the Baie Verte Peninsula next week as part of a two-day tour.
Dr. Axel Meisen will be in the region June 28-29 to meet with local community leaders, alumni, friends and prospective students of Memorial, as well as tour several mining sites in the area.
On Thursday, June 28, he will meet with the president of the Baie Verte and Area Chamber of Commerce, tour Crew Gold (Canada) Ltd., and meet with Baie Verte Mayor Gerald Acreman. That evening he will deliver a talk to the chamber of commerce at the Baie Vista Inn entitled What Memorial University Can Do For You. Media representatives are invited to attend.
On Friday, Dr. Meisen is scheduled to meet high school representatives in the region including principals, teachers, guidance counsellors, Memorial alumni and student applicants for this September during a breakfast meeting.
Dr. Meisen will then tour Rambler Mines. Later in the day, he is scheduled to meet with the president of the region’s economic development association before departing.
The trip to the Baie Verte area builds on several key visits Dr. Meisen has made in the past number of years to various parts of the province, including Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador City, Port aux Basques, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook and Marystown.
Dr. Meisen will be available to speak with local media on a number of issues including Memorial University’s role in this province, the ongoing development of the provincial economy, and the role of universities in fostering innovation in the Atlantic economy.
