REF NO.: 164
|SUBJECT:||Memorial University library system to get new look and feel on the Web|
|DATE:||May 21, 2003|
Note to editors:
The best research library system in the province will be getting a new look and feel on the Web later this week. Memorial University Libraries will be officially launching a new Web site and a new catalogue interface at a special ceremony to be held on Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Flume Tank, located in Memorial's Fisheries and Marine Institute on Ridge Road. The ceremony gets underway at 1 p.m. and will take place during the Atlantic Provinces Libraries Association 2003 Conference.
Richard Ellis, university librarian, and Memorial President Dr. Axel Meisen will be participating in this launch ceremony. As well as helping users locate material in the Memorial Libraries System more easily, the new catalogue interface will provide more information about library items. For example, a book's table of contents, or a blurb about the book, or a brief biography about the author may be attached to the item's record in the catalogue.
Media agencies are encouraged to attend this ceremony. The home page www.library.mun.ca will still help users find what they need, whether it's books, articles or web pages, but in a more eye-catching and pleasing way.
For further information about the Atlantic Provinces Library Association conference, please see www.apla.ca. Approximately 150 librarians and library assistants/technicians from the region are expected at the conference.
