|SUBJECT:||Provincial optical research network, ACORN-NL to be officially launched|
|DATE:||March 9, 2007|
Advanced, very high-speed research networks play an important role in 21st century research by allowing researchers to participate in collaborative projects, nationally and globally. Members of Newfoundland and Labrador’s first optical research network will officially launch ACORN-NL on Tuesday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the 1st floor atrium of the Inco Innovation Centre.
The ACORN-NL network is collaboration among Memorial University and its research institutes, the College of the North Atlantic, the Institute of Ocean Technology-NRC; the Department of Fisheries and Ocean, the Eastern School Board and the Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation. ACORN-NL will aid member institutions in recruitment and retention of world-class researchers and will put Newfoundland and Labrador on an equal footing with other provinces that already have access to high-speed research grids.
Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives.
Reception to follow.
