Memorial University President Dr. Axel Meisen will be in Grand Falls-Windsor on Tuesday, April 22 to participate in several public events. Media agencies are invited to attend the events detailed below:
At 11 a.m., Dr. Meisen, together with Pam Walsh, the president of the College of the North Atlantic, will meet to unveil a new sign on the college's Grand Falls-Windsor campus. The sign marks the increasing co-operation between the two institutions. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives to this photo opportunity. The unveiling will take place at the College of the North Atlantic campus, located at the intersection of Cromer Avenue and St. Catherine's Street.
Address to GFW Chamber of Commerce
At 12 noon, Dr. Meisen will address the Grand Falls-Windsor Chamber of Commerce. His presentation will take place at the Mount Peyton Hotel.
Alumni Association Lecture
In the evening, Dr. Meisen will attend a public presentation by Dr. Wilf Nicholls, the director of Memorial's Botanical Garden. Dr. Nicholls' presentation is being hosted by the Grand Falls-Windsor chapter of the Alumni Association of Memorial University. The lecture will be a tour of the natural vegetation of Newfoundland and Labrador focusing on endangered or rare species of the Northern Peninsula. Dr. Nicholls will also explore new opportunities for horticulture and agriculture in central Newfoundland, including the potential of the seabuck thornberry as a cash crop.
Dr. Nicholls' presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Lecture Theatre, College of the North Atlantic, Grand Falls-Windsor campus.
