REF NO.: 94
|SUBJECT:||Innovative scholarship program extends from junior high to life at Memorial|
|DATE:||Jan. 9, 2007|
Memorial University of Newfoundland, in partnership with the Fry Family Foundation, is proud to announce that the 2007 nomination period for the HORIZONS Leadership Development Program has begun.
In addition to the initial award of $200, successful Grade 9 applicants are given the opportunity to participate in extensive leadership training throughout their high school careers. This includes a leadership development weekend, a service-learning program, and in Grade 12, HORIZONS students receive a special invitation to Memorial’s LEAP event to ease the transition into university life. Upon their entrance to Memorial, students are awarded an additional $1,000 scholarship and are offered the opportunity to participate in experiential employment placements on the campus.
Now in its sixth annual cycle, the HORIZONS Program has been very successful in reaching students all across the province. Its fundamental goal is the fostering of youth leadership competencies in Newfoundland and Labrador. Recognition and opportunity are essential elements obtained through the HORIZONS program.
To apply, students are asked to contact their guidance counsellors. If you would like more information about this topic, please call (709) 737-7461 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
