Local dialects get a bad rap as an inferior form of a language, but Professor Alison Henry, a distinguished linguist from the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, will be at Memorial University in St. John’s to give a public lecture on the importance of respecting and preserving local dialects, which she says offer valuable scientific and cultural information.
