What types of activities is Memorial University undertaking in southeastern Labrador? What research projects, teaching and outreach activities are being led by University faculty and staff in the region? What else could the University be doing in southeastern Labrador? Economic development practitioners, municipal councilors and staff, government officials and interested members of the public are invited to participate in this workshop.
Regional Workshops offer the opportunity for Memorial University faculty, staff and students to meet with regional stakeholders, in order to discuss topics of mutual interest. The purpose of a Regional Workshop is to explore ways of creating sustainable social and economic regions, and to identify possible future opportunities for research, teaching and outreach.
Memorial University’s Harris Centre will address these questions and more at a regional workshop in Economic Zones 4 and 5. The workshop is presented in partnership with the Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation (SADC) and the Labrador Straits Development Corporation (LSDC) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Northern Light Inn, L’Anse au Clair.
As a prelude to the workshop, on the evening of Wednesday, May 17th , 7 p.m. at the Northern Light Inn, L’Anse au Clair there will be a Memorial Presents session on the fishery entitled “The Fishery: Can it save Rural Newfoundland and Labrador?”
