SUBJECT: Symposium to ‘expose’ ovarian cancer
DATE: Sept. 21
A group of patients, cancer survivors and health-care professionals at Memorial University have organized a symposium taking place on Saturday, Sept. 23, to focus on the facts, risks, signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.
The “exposium” seeks to enhance the knowledge and understanding of ovarian cancer, a cancer that often lacks symptoms or is easily misdiagnosed, which may result in limited or non-existent treatment options.
Anyone with an interest in learning more about ovarian cancer will be able to benefit from presentations, discussions and break-out sessions taking place during the day.
Ovarian cancer survivors and current patients will share their experiences about diagnosis, treatment and their hope for the future. Health-care professionals will share research and discoveries that are taking place right here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Registration for the symposium is available through the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Professional Development and all are welcome to attend. In-person registration will also be available on Saturday morning in the atrium of the Faculty of Medicine building located on the east side of Clinch Crescent, across from the parking garage on Memorial’s St. John’s campus.
Members of the media are welcome to attend the symposium; a special presentation launching a research and education fund will take place at 12 p.m. in the Dr. Richard Fagan Lecture Theatre, room 1M101.
