SUBJECT: Memorial University’s artists-in-residence to perform

DATE: Oct. 14,2016

Queen Elizabeth II Library is the site of a live performance featuring Julia Taffe, dancer-in-residence, and Sara Tilley, writer-in-residence, accompanied by students and faculty of the School of Music led by Dr. Ellen Waterman.

Ms. Taffe combines art, the environment and adventure by dancing on buildings and mountains. She is the founder and artistic director of Aeriosa, a vertical dance company based in Vancouver, B.C.

Ms. Tilley has written 11 plays and two novels. Her 2015 novel Duke received the 2015 BMO Winterset Award.

The vertical dance and performances will take place in the lobby of the QEII Library on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 1-2 p.m., followed by a meet-and-greet session to follow in the Centre for Newfoundland Studies, third floor, QEII Library.

The artists-in-residence programs at Memorial University aim to explore the overlap of academia and the creative arts, as well as strengthen connections with the arts community of the province. There are a number of activities planned that encompass an array of forums and approaches, such as workshops, mentoring and collaborations.

The following public events will be happening on Memorial’s St. John’s campus:

  • Improvising Spaces Workshop and Speaker Series (open rehearsal): Oct.15, 5:45-6:45 p.m., lobby of the QEII Library
  • Artists-in-Residence Perform: Oct. 18, 1-2 p.m., lobby of the QEII Library
