Volunteer Day and volunteer awards ceremony to be held at Memorial University |
Wednesday, April 3, 2002, is MUN Volunteer Day at Memorial
University. During the day, the university's Student Volunteer Bureau will
hold its 16th Annual MUN Volunteer Day Awards Ceremony at Hatcher Dining
Hall, Paton College, located on Memorial's St. John's campus. The awards ceremony
begins at 12:30 p.m.
Seven main awards will be presented to students, faculty and staff and
on-campus organizations for their outstanding community service. Awards
include:
- MUN Student Volunteer of the Year
- MUN Staff/Faculty Volunteer of the Year
- MUN Volunteer Residence of the Year
- MUN Volunteer Club/Society of the Year
- MUN Volunteer Resource Centre of the Year
- The David Kirkland Student Leadership Award
- The Glenn Roy Blundon Award (dedicated to the memory of Glenn Blundon, a former student at Memorial)
Special Recognition Awards will also be presented to the various volunteer
programs on campus, and all nominees will receive a Certificate of
Recognition.
Several special guests will attending this ceremony, including, Dr. Axel
Meisen, president and vice-chancellor of Memorial; guest of honour, Edward
Roberts, QC, chair of Memorial's Board of Regents; John Perlin, OC, CVO,
honorary chair of the Community Services Council's Volunteer Week Committee,
who will be this year's guest speaker.
Following the awards presentation there will be a small reception.
Media agencies are invited to attend this event, as many volunteers and
on-campus program coordinators will be available for interviews.
