Memorial University's spring convocation ceremonies taking place from May 29-May 31, 2002 |
Note to editors:
Memorial University will hold its spring convocation ceremonies from Wednesday, May 29 through to Friday, May 31, 2002, at the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre. There will be a total of seven sessions of convocation. Approximately 2,000 degrees will be awarded during the course of the three days.
Seven outstanding individuals will also receive honorary degrees during the three days. Honorary degrees -- awarded by the university's Senate --will be conferred upon the following: Sister Elizabeth Davis, educator, executive and community leader; Dr. Sandra Djwa, professor, editor and E.J. Pratt scholar; Ron Hynes, singer, songwriter and actor; James Igloliorte, judge and community leader; Dr. Brenda Milner, pioneering neuropsychologist and professor; Dr. Henry Mintzberg, professor and renowned management expert; and Right Rev. The seven sessions of convocation in St. John's will be attended by about 1,500 graduates and their families with three sessions on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and two sessions a day on Thursday and Friday (10 a.m. and 3 p.m.). Dr. Axel Meisen, Memorial's president, will deliver his biannual report to convocation during the 10 a.m. session of convocation on Friday, May 31.
