Memorial University launches new program to recognize alumni

Ref. No. 171

DATE:     August 9, 2002
SUBJECT:     Memorial University launches new program to recognize alumni

Mr. John Kearsey, director for Alumni Affairs and Development, Memorial University and Dr. Linda Inkpen, 1988 Memorial alumna of the year, today announced a new program of recognition for alumni. The intention of the newly expanded awards program is to focus attention on the outstanding successes of Memorial University alumni in five important areas. These include the Alumni Award for Lifetime Achievement, J.D. Eaton Alumni Award for service to Memorial, Alumni Horizon Award for outstanding alumni under 35, Alumni Award for Outstanding Community Service, and the Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement.

Nominations for the new awards must be submitted by August 23rd. Dr. Inkpen is chairperson of the awards program. "I encourage Memorial University alumni to participate by nominating someone they know, respect and admire for one of the awards," said Dr. Inkpen. "We've simplified the nominating process so that alumni can quickly and easily complete the nomination form."

"Memorial's alumni are leaders around the globe. But no matter where they are on their life path, no matter what sector of the community they have dedicated themselves too, it's important for alumni to know we value them, that each contribution is significant. These awards will go a long way towards realizing that goal," said Mr. Kearsey. Full details and nomination forms are available on the Memorial Website at www.mun.ca/munalum/awards.html or by calling 737-4354 or 1-877-700-4081 and asking for the Alumni Tribute Awards nomination form. Nominations must be submitted as original documents. Faxes and electronic version will not be accepted. Mail or deliver to the office of Alumni Affairs and Development, Lambe's Lane, Memorial University, St. John's Campus.
