Bonne Bay Marine Station to be officially opened on Friday, Sept. 6 |
NOTE TO EDITORS:
Gerry Byrne, minister of state for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Kelvin Parsons, minister of Industry,
Trade and Rural Development, Robert Hicks, chairman of the Gros Morne Co-operating Association and Dr. Axel Meisen, president
and vice-chancellor of Memorial University, will officially open Memorial University's Bonne Bay Marine Station at Norris Point on
Friday, Sept. 6.
Built on the site of Memorial's 30-year old biology field station, the new Bonne Bay Marine Station will serve as a teaching
centre for marine biology and environmental studies students, a research complex and a marine interpretation centre for the public. The station is located at Norris Point, a village of about 900 people, located on the north side of Bonne Bay.
The event will be held at the Bonne Bay Marine Station on Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. A reception will
follow the opening. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives.
