Lloyd Axworthy to visit and lecture at Memorila University on Monday, Nov. 19

SUBJECT:     Lloyd Axworthy to visit and lecture at Memorila University on Monday, Nov. 19

Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, former minister of foreign affairs and director and CEO of the Liu Centre for the Study of Global Issues at the University of British Columbia, will be the first lecturer in the newly established John Kenneth Galbraith Lectureship in Public Policy at Memorial University.

Dr. Axworthy's lecture -- entitled, The Human Security Agenda: Prescriptions for Canada in an Age of Globalization -- will be held in the D. F. Cook Recital Hall on Monday, Nov. 19, 2001. The lecture begins at 8 p.m. and is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

Media agencies are advised that Dr. Axworthy will be visiting with students of Geography 1010 from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. in the main lecture hall (Room SN-2109) in the Science Building on Memorial's St. John's campus on Monday, Nov. 19.

After this class visit, at 10:30 a.m., Dr. Axworthy will be holding a news conference in Room SN-2018 (this is immediately down the corridor from the lecture theatre). This news conference is sponsored by Oxfam Canada. Media agencies are invited to attend all the above noted events.
