High winds cause damage to overhead walkway connecting Field House to Aquarena - Westerland Road closed |
Earlier this afternoon, high winds loosened a number of composite-metal
siding panels in the underside of the overhead walkway which links Memorial
University's new Field House to the Aquarena. The panels fell in the
Aquarena parking lot and there are no reports of injuries or damage. The
overhead walkway is still under construction.
Aquarena officials immediately alerted the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
and, as a precautionary measure, part of Westerland Road has been closed
until the high winds abate. The Aquarena is also closed. Memorial's
engineering and safety officials are on the scene and the university will
issue a further update later this evening.
