||QEII Library home to a new display commemorating the Queen's Golden Jubilee
A new display celebrating the Golden Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's reign is now open for public viewing at the library named in her honour. Dr. Axel Meisen, president and vice-chancellor of Memorial University, and Lt.-Gov. Max House officially opened the display today at the Queen Elizabeth II Library.
The souvenirs, collectibles and family heirlooms that are part of this display were contributed by Memorial's faculty and staff. The display includes: souvenirs that were issued to commemorate the Queen's coronation; photos of Her Majesty during her visits to this province and the university campus; and a glass dish issued in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria, the first Canadian Monarch to celebrate her Golden Jubilee.
The display, which is open to the public during regular hours, will remain in the library until Aug. 17th.
Editor's note: A photo of Lt.-Gov. Max House viewing the exhibit is available at www.mun.ca/univrel/photos.html.
