Memorial University's GENESIS Group brings technology to Christmas |
The GENESIS Group, Memorial University's commercialization arm, will be
making its debut in the St. John's 2001 Downtown Christmas Parade with a
float titled I'll be Home for Christmas. The float will depict a Christmas
home-coming from the past and a view of what it might look like in the
future. The float will present a fantasy vision of transporting home from
faraway in the year 2026, using advances in information technology, the
human genome, aerospace and engineering.
Along with the float, a 1926 Model T will be driven by owner, Ed Downton, a
staff member in the Department Technical Services, Memorial University. A
group of mummers playing guitars manufactured in Newfoundland by Garrison
Guitars, a graduate of the GENESIS Centre at Memorial will also be
featured. The parade takes place on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2:30 p.m.
