Director appointed to newly created department in Memorial University's Department of Student Affairs and Services |
Robert Shea has been appointed director of Memorial's new Department of
Career Development and Experiential Learning. Mr. Shea was appointed by the
Board of Regents and takes up his post immediately.
In this position, Mr. Shea will be responsible for the leadership of the
Centre of Career Development, Co-operative Education Services Centre and
Volunteer Services. As well, he will edit the Canadian Journal of Career
Development, a national peer reviewed journal to be launched in this fall.
"The creation of this department signals a solid beginning for Memorial's
response to providing a new, creative and comprehensive approach to career
development and experiential learning for all our students," Mr. Shea said.
"We have a solid foundation and a dynamic team of professionals upon which
to build our approach and I look forward to the future."
Mr. Shea has a bachelor of arts, bachelor of social work and master's in
education from Memorial and is a registered social worker in Newfoundland
and Labrador.
Mr. Shea is a recipient of numerous national and regional awards for his
work in student services, including the Governor General of Canada's Caring
Canadian Award for outstanding community services and the St. John's
Citizen of the Year award.
He is the president of the Student Affairs and Services Association, a
national association representing over 400 student services professionals
in Canada, and chair of ContactPoint, a national online resource for career
development professionals.
