LUMUN OFFICE SPACE PROJECT
We need your help!
Although our Collective Agreement with Memorial states that “The University shall use its best efforts to provide Per Course Instructors with access to appropriate office space” (24.02), it would seem that those best efforts often result in less than satisfactory results.
To impress upon the University that we need better and healthier working spaces, we would like to hear your office-related experiences here at MUN.
What state are our offices in? How are the walls, floors, ceilings and furnishings? Do our offices have working computers? Do we have access to printers? How many people share a single office? Is there space enough for more than one person to use the office at a time? Are our offices cluttered with old office equipment, textbooks, and exam booklets? Do the windows open and close? Do they leak? Do the drapes and/or blinds open and close? How often do we change offices? Are these offices acceptable places for us to work and meet with students?
Please submit your office stories to our Office Space Project, including, where possible, pictures of your office. All information provided to us will remain anonymous.
Members who submit stories and/or photos will have their names added to the Big Orange Bowl. The two members whose names are drawn from the bowl at the upcoming General Membership Meeting (Thursday, 22 March, at 6 p.m.) will each receive a $50 VISA gift card!!

PER-COURSE INSTRUCTORS AT MUN HAVE NO HEALTH BENEFITS
PLEASE HELP AN INSTRUCTOR IN NEED
A per-course instructor in Biochemistry, Elaine Dodge Lynch, is still recovering from a life-threatening bacterial infection. She has undergone multiple amputations as a result and needs prostheses. Her husband has established a GoFundMe site, hoping to defray the hefty costs for the devices and for medical travel.

The Lecturers' Union of Memorial University of Newfoundland (LUMUN) was accredited as a union representing per-course instructors at MUN by the Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Relations Board in December 2006.
A first Collective Agreement between LUMUN and the University was ratified in February 2009.
On 26 April 2012, LUMUN was certified to represent Postdoctoral Fellows at MUN.
The postdoctoral fellows ratified their first collective agreement on 15 January 2014.
The per-course instructors ratified their second collective agreement on 27 March 2014.
LUMUN is affiliated with the Public Service Alliance of Canada and with the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour.
