Thesis Title

  • On the Acquisition of Verbal Morphology: A Case Study of Northern East Cree.

Thesis Description

I am undertaking a case study of child language development in Northern East Cree through the Chisasibi Child Language Acquisition Study (http://www.mun.ca/cclas/). Northern East Cree is a polysynthetic language with complex morphophonology. I am tracking the acquisition of verbal morphology of one child from roughly age 4 to 6 to investigate strategies used by children to learn Northern East Cree, and theories of the acquisition of polysynthetic languages in general.
