Library and archives
Originally the Labrador Institute’s library grew as a result of consolidating three libraries, each with its own cataloguing system. The library is now compliant with the Library of Congress system.
As a result of the recent co-location between the Institute and the College of the North Atlantic, the Library now has dedicated staff that oversee the collection. Most books are available on loan, but the rarer archival collection can only be used for research in-house.
Our current holdings can be found in the Labrador Institute Online Catalogue with new titles being added daily.

The Labrador Institute also has an extensive collection of videos, photographs and slides about Labrador, its environment and culture. One important group of photos were obtained from Bowdoin College in Maine and these photographs show life in Labrador from 1897 to the early 1900's.
We are in the process of digitizing many of our rare media holdings and we hope to make these part of the Digital Archive Initiative sponsored by Memorial.
During the school year general library hours are:
Monday -Thursday: 8 am to 8 pm
Friday: 8 am to 5 pm
Saturday: closed
Sun: 1 - 5 pm
Summer hours may vary, and the Library is generally closed as per provincial holiday schedule.
