Heritage
The Labrador Institute has always played a
role in preserving Labrador’s diverse heritage, mainly by
supporting research, but also by archiving documents, photos, and
other media in its library.
The Labrador Institute also contributes a series of photographs to
the Labrador Gallery web page. Many of these photos relate
to Labrador heritage.
One
project that LI staff member Beatrice Dickers takes an
active role in is the Big Land Challenge Dog Team Race.
The purpose of the Big Land Challenge Dog Team Race is to reintroduce both the Labrador husky and dog team racing to central Labrador.
In doing so, this project hopes to contribute to the preservation of the Labrador husky which is very important to Labrador’s culture and heritage.
In years past dog teams were an essential part of the daily
lives of people in Labrador. The Labrador Institute supports this
event by providing staff time and the use of office equipment.
