A GREEN CONFERENCE

The St. John's organizers are striving to keep waste to a minimum and to make the 2011 conference as conserving as possible. To that end, the Abstract Booklet will be provided electronically on a CD and we hope that ICTM members will enjoy the greater capacity for keyword searching that the electronic format enables. Delegates are also encouraged to download the Abstract Booklet directly from the website. We are also providing delegates with water bottles and encourage them to use them throughout the conference.

Technology for Presenting Papers

All presentation rooms will be equipped with computers running Windows 7 and VLC Media Player, which should play DVDs from all regions. However, delegates are strongly encouraged to check compatibility and arrange to test their media in advance of presentations in the Technology Trial Room. The presentation software will be Microsoft PowerPoint; therefore, presentations should be saved in the compatible format (.ppt).

We strongly encourage all presenters to use the computers already provided in each room. If you choose NOT to use the computers provided, you must bring your own laptop and adapters. To ensure a successful powerpoint presentation, please take note of two things: You are encouraged to embed fonts in your presentation or to use .jpg images of text with diacritics to ensure that diacritical markings are visible on your powerpoint slides. If you are embedding audio or files in your powerpoint presentation, in addition to saving your powerpoint presentation on a memory stick/jump drive, you must save the audio and video files to the same memory stick/jump drive.

Wireless Technology, Internet Access, and Computers

All full-time registered delegates will have access to the internet and basic computing during the conference. Upon picking up their conference kit, all pre-registered delegates will receive a username and password that will give them access to the 1) Memorial University wireless network and 2) computer workstations in the Music Resource Centre (School of Music) and Commons (QEII Library). Your username and password will automatically expire on July 20.

Technology Trial Room

Delegates are encouraged to go to the Technology Trial Room in the School of Music, Room 1001 to ensure that their presentations will work as intended.

Wireless Access

The wireless network will only support 802.11G wireless protocol, employing WPA Enterprise security, using TKIP encryption for a PEAP. Please ensure that your wireless device has this capability prior to arriving in St. John's. There only will be a limited number of Wireless G USB adapters, for use with laptops, available for purchase on campus.

NOTE: On July 13, help will be available in the School of Music to configure your wireless devices. Delegates staying in residence can also be assisted by staff at Hatcher House. Please note that the university's wireless network does not extend to the Arts and Culture Centre, where delegates will register on July 12 and 13.
