Alumni Affairs and Development

We are seeking highly qualified individuals for Development Officer positions to develop and implement a major gift solicitation program under the Development Division of Alumni Affairs and Development. 

The Office of Alumni Affairs and Development exists to foster relationships between and among alumni, between alumni and the University, and to encourage giving in support of Memorial's strategic priorities. Our team works to create opportunities for alumni and friends of the University to give back to Memorial.

The Development division is hiring one or more senior and/or faculty-based fundraising professionals with a variety of areas of focus including, but not limited to the Faculty of Business Administration, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.  Working with a skilled group of development professionals you will be part of a dynamic team that, in partnership with senior academic leaders, will generate maximum private-sector philanthropic support for the University.  This includes making face-to-face visits for the purposes of discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship at the major gift level as well as managing this process for the Dean.

SENIOR DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
DUTIES
As a senior member of the Development team at Memorial you will have university-wide responsibility in securing leadership-level major gifts in support of strategic priorities. Reporting to the Associate Director, Development and (depending on the position) the Dean, you will formulate and implement major gift fundraising strategies within a diverse fundraising environment and other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (5-7 years) in resource development, and relationship management and development, preferably in fundraising, in the education, health-care or not-for-profit sector; graduation from a four-year college or university; or any equivalent combination of experience.  A track record of success in securing major gifts, the ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple projects from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines, and work both independently and within a team, is highly desirable. Knowledge of Memorial University and its unique mandate and responsibilities to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador would be an asset.  Willingness to work some non-traditional hours and regular travel is required. CFRE designation would be an asset.

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (FACULTY BASED)
DUTIES
Reporting jointly to the Dean and the Senior Development Officer responsible for Faculty-based Development you will be responsible to develop and manage a comprehensive fundraising plan as well as a portfolio of major gift prospects within a Faculty or School and other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in major gift fundraising, an advancement-related field, business development, sales or sponsorship, preferably in fund-raising in the education or not-for-profit sector; graduation from a four year college or university; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Persuasive and productive communication, diplomacy and negotiations skills that allow success both within the campus environment and in the field, as well as, the ability to build and maintain productive donor relationships, manage multiple projects from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines, and work both independently and within a team is required. Exemplary judgement, written and oral communication skills as well as a goal-focused orientation are required. Knowledge of Memorial University and its unique mandate and responsibilities to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador would be an asset. Willingness to work some non-traditional hours and travel both within and outside the province is required.
