Deans from across Canada gather at Memorial

As President-elect of CCUPEKA for the last year, outgoing HKR dean Dr. Antony Card hosted this year's annual general meeting here at Memorial.

Dr. Card said the discussions during the conference were very informative. "Having the annual general meeting gives us as opportunity to showcase HKR and Memorial on a national stage. It also gives us a chance to learn from everyone else. We talk about our challenges, successes. It's like a self-help group when we all get together. It's all about sharing."

"The delegates have had a phenomenal time here in St. John's. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and they even got to see some whales and do some golfing."

CCUPEKA represents the administrators of physical education and kinesiology programs at universities in Canada. They provide opportunities, such as this conference, to share common issues, concerns and solutions to problems.

Initially, the organization was partly a lobbying group - convincing the national granting agencies to see faculty members as legitimate researchers. However, over the last 30 years, it has continued to evolve and is now the accrediting body for physical education and kinesiology programs in Canada. CCUPEKA represents 35 institutions from coast to coast.
