Biosafety

Lab in Science Building

Health Canada (Health Protection Branch - Laboratory Centre for Disease Control) has issued Laboratory Biosafety Guidelines edition, 2004.

Research granting agencies require that operations involving cell cultures, bacteria, chlamydia, mycoplasma, fungi, viruses, and parasites be monitored by an institutional Biosafety Committee.

The Radiation & Biosafety Control Officer administers the Laboratory Biosafety Guidelines on behalf of the Committee.

Persons wishing to use any of the above biohazardous agents must submit an application to the Committee which signifies its approval by issuing a biosafety certificate.

For information or to apply for approval call 864-3659 or e-mail bso@mun.ca.
