Public Policy Forums

The Harris Centre offers three different types of public policy forums:

  • "Memorial Presents" provides an opportunity for a researcher from Memorial University to present on an issue of current public interest. There are three lectures per year at the St. John's campus of Memorial University, (including the Marine Institute) and one at Sir Wilfred Grenfell Campus. In addition, a "Memorial Presents" is held in conjunction with each Regional Workshop. Faculty members, staff members and graduate students who are interested in participating as a main presenter for a "Memorial Presents" are invited to contact the Harris Centre.
  • The John Kenneth Galbraith Lectureship in Public Policy is an opportunity for Memorial University to invite a nationally or internationally renowned speaker to discuss an issue of current interest. The lectures are held on the St. John's campus of Memorial University and there is one Galbraith Lecture per academic year.
  • Synergy Sessions provide an opportunity for government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and University members to address public policy issues in a confidential setting. Participation in these sessions is by invitation only, and comments made in the sessions are off-the-record and not for attribution. The value of the sessions lies in creating synergies between organizations and in helping to eliminate policy silos.

There are no admission fees to the Harris Centre's public lectures, and parking for on-campus lectures is free of charge. A free reception is normally held after each lecture.
