St. Bride's, NL - November 8, 2006

The Harris Centre’s fifth Regional Workshop was held in partnership with the Avalon Gateway Regional Economic Development Inc (Zone 18) on November 8th, 2006 in St. Bride’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Attendees included participants from Memorial University as well as a variety of stakeholders from Zone 18. The purpose of this workshop was to promote Memorial University as a resource for regional policy and development throughout the province through research, teaching and outreach activities as well as to identify future opportunities within the Zone in which Memorial University could become involved.

Over 50 people attended the Regional Workshop and the broad range of participants from Memorial University coupled with the diverse group of local stakeholders made for an informative, educational, and rewarding experience for those involved.

There were a total of 33 follow-up opportunities identified at the workshop – 7 in Technology, 4 in Education, 13 in Natural Resources and 10 in Tourism.

We are in the process of following up on the opportunities identified at the Regional Workshop for Memorial to partner with the community. We are sure we can build on the energy and enthusiasm generated from the event to make these opportunities a reality.
