The Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development and the Mariner Resource Opportunities Network hosted a public meeting at Fong’s Motel in Carbonear on Monday, November 17, 2008. Approximately sixty people from the community and Memorial University gathered to discuss how the Baccalieu Trail school system can be adapted to better respond to the labour market needs of the region. The guest speaker was Dr. Gerald Galway of Memorial University’s Faculty of Education and former assistant deputy minister of education for Newfoundland and Labrador.
The public session was followed by a workshop the following day at Fong’s Motel, where local leaders and stakeholders meet with representatives from Memorial University to identify new collaborations.
