Student Research Fund - An Initiative of The Harris Centre and the Provincial Office of Public Engagement

The Student Research Fund is a collaboration initiative of the Harris Centre and the Provincial Government's Office of Public Engagement. The Student Research Fund is intended to provide relevant experience to graduate students and enhance the human resource, institutional and analytical capacity and expertise at the university to undertake research and analysis related to business and labour issues in the province.

Since the fund's inception in 2005, it has supported 21 research projects for students. The Student Research Fund supports research in what could broadly be defined as issues relevant to business and labour in Newfoundland and Labrador. The topics identified include (but are not limited to):

  • Recruitment and retention
  • Participation of women and older workers
  • Immigration
  • Temporary foreign workers
  • Apprenticeship
  • Education and training
  • Skills mismatch
  • Barriers to employment
  • Labour shortages (provincial, regional or sectoral)
  • Social enterprise
  • Youth Entrepreneurship
