A reminder
Please be aware that whether an individual student, faculty or staff member has, or is suspected of having, the H1N1 virus, or any other illness, remains a confidential matter.
An individual requesting sick leave may disclose to a supervisor/unit head or professor/class instructor the nature of the illness or other reasons prompting the leave request, but that information must be kept confidential.
It is, of course, appropriate to communicate to others that the individual is on leave or out of the office/class. Please also discourage speculation about the health particulars of individual employees or studentsand encourage a culture of privacy protection for personal health information.
Of course, an individual may choose to share his/her personal health information with others in the university community.
