Prevention: Clean, Cover and Contain
Prevention is the best approach to protect against influenza. Memorial encourages you to take personal responsibility for good hygiene and healthy habits. This is the most important H1N1 prevention strategy.
Protect yourself and others. Clean, Cover & Contain is the recommended approach:
- Clean: Wash hands thoroughly and often with soap and water or hand sanitizer, especially after coughing or sneezing. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. How-to guide for cleaning hands.
- Cover: Every time you cough or sneeze, use a tissue, arm or crook of elbow to cover your nose and mouth. Do not use your hands, which frequently touch other surfaces and people. If you use a tissue, dispose of it properly, then wash your hands.
- Contain: stay at home so that the illness is not spread to others. Do not share utensils, drinks, cigarettes or personal care items.
