The Ceremony
The Fall Convocation ceremony for Grenfell Campus. Memorial University of Newfoundland will take place on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Pepsi Studio, Corner Brook.
Tickets for graduating students and their guests will be available on Thursday, May 10, at 1:30 pm just prior to the rehersal which will begin at 2:00 pm in the Pepsi Studio.
On the day of Convocation, you should arrive at the Canada House, Pepsi Centre at 8:30 a.m. to pick up your academic dress that has been ordered before April 25, 2012 through the Gaspard link on the Memorial Self-Service website. Please bring your confirmation number for your gown rental. Upon receiving your academic dress you will be ushered to the dressing room to receive your stage card and await procession.
The convocation ceremony is approximately one hour and 30 minutes in length. The ceremony can be viewed on the university’s website www.mun.ca later in the day. It is also videotaped for future broadcast on local cable television, and copies of the DVD are made available for sale at the Campus Bookstore approximately one month after convocation.
Convocation begins when the mace, the symbol of authority of the university, is placed in front of the chancellor.
Following the opening formalities, the candidates for degrees will be presented. At the appropriate time, ushers will direct you to the left side of the stage where you will pass your name card to the college registrar.When your name is called, you should cross to the centre of the stage, pass your hood to the vice-president and kneel on the stool. The vice-president places the hood over your head. The chancellor will then offer you congratulations. You should then proceed across and off the stage to the backstage area where you will receive your degree certificate, have professional photos taken and then be directed back to your seat.
After the conferring of the honorary degree, the ceremony concludes with an invitation to you and your guests to celebrate the occasion by attending the convocation reception in the Pepsi Studio foyer.
