On the brain

Dr. Robert Adamec

The Governing Council of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has announced the appointment of Dr. Robert Adamec, Psychology, as a member of the Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA) Advisory Board starting in September 2007 for three years.

INMHA supports research that enhances knowledge of the brain to improve mental health, neurological health, vision, hearing and cognitive functioning. One goal of INMHA is to reduce the burden of brain illness through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems and palliation. Research supported by INHMA also aims to improve understanding of human thought and emotion, behaviour, sensation (sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell) perception, learning, and memory.

“This is a major accomplishment which recognizes Dr. Adamac’s success in research and the high regard in which he is held by his peers,” said Dr. Christopher Loomis, vice-president (research). “Of course, it also brings valuable recognition to Memorial University, for which we are grateful.”
