Grenfell College is hosting an international symposium next month. The Architecture of the Book takes place at Memorial’s west coast campus March 7-10, 2007.

The Architecture of the Book: Critical Issues that Inform the Artist’s Book, will be held in conjunction with an exhibition titled The Architectural Uncanny by Marlene MacCallum, Feb. 8 to March 24.

The Architecture of the Book will facilitate critical discourse on the artist’s book from interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary perspectives.
“The symposium and exhibition coincide with the 20th anniversary celebration of The March Hare, Atlantic Canada’s largest poetry festival,” said Gail Tuttle, director of the Grenfell College Art Gallery.

The symposium keynote speaker is Dr. Johanna Drucker, writer and book artist, and Robertson Professor of Media Studies at the University of Virginia.

The Architecture of the Book will include accompanying events, including two public workshops on book arts construction and advanced methods, an opening reception for The Architectural Uncanny exhibition, an open portfolio evening with coffee, admission to the Corner Brook launch of the March Hare, poetry readings, studio tours and excursions.

Registration for the symposium is ongoing; registration deadline is Feb. 28, with an early bird discount offered to delegates before Feb 7. To register see
