The Memorial University Cheerleading squad claimed the top spot in Canada for the second year in a row at the 2006 PCA University and Open National Cheerleading Championships Dec. 2. At the Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario, the women competed in the All-Girl Collegiate division finishing in first place with 657.5 points ahead of McGill, Brock and the University of Alberta. This is the second year in a row that the team has claimed the top prize quite an impressive feat, said Coach Angela Burke. “Memorial really does have quite a strong cheerleading team. Who would have thought the team from farthest east would win two years in a row? It’s definitely a great feeling.” For more, see www.muncheerleading.com.
