New director for faculty relations
Karen Hollett has been appointed director of Faculty Relations effective Sept. 1, 2006.
Ms. Hollett has a BA from Memorial and a law degree from Dalhousie. After working in private practice in St. John’s, she joined the Newfoundland and Labrador Nurses Union in 1993 as a labour relations officer and lawyer.
In that capacity, she was an advocate for the union in various courts, arbitration boards, and other tribunals, and was involved in mediation hearings, providing advice and opinions. She joined the Office of Faculty Relations on Sept. 1, 2003, as associate director. Her title was changed to reflect her responsibilities as the university’s Legal Counsel. She continues to hold this role on an interim basis.
Ms. Hollett has an advanced alternate dispute resolution certificate from the University of Windsor Law School. She is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian Association of University Solicitors, the Academy of
Academic Personnel Administrators and the CAUBO Faculty Bargaining Group.
The Office of Faculty Relations is responsible for the negotiation and administration of the collective agreement between the university and the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association (MUNFA).
As well, it deals with all labour relations matters arising out of the university’s collective bargaining relationship with MUNFA, including grievance and arbitration proceedings and Labour Relations Board matters.
