Dr. Alastair A. Macdonald

Dr. Alastair Macdonald died peacefully at home in the company of friends on Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the age of 86. Originally from Ballindalloch in the Scottish Highlands, he was educated at Aberdeen University, Oxford University and Victoria University of Manchester. Dr. Macdonald came to Newfoundland in 1955 to teach English literature at Memorial University where he remained until his retirement in 1987 when he was made professor emeritus. He was a respected academic and a gifted visual artist, cartoonist, satirist and poet. His eigth book of poetry The Cyclic Variations and More New Poems has recently been published by Breakwater Books.
