Single mothers may be the biggest beneficiaries this year of the Sally Davis Scholarship. In April, Dr. Valerie Burton, right, graduate coordinator for Women’s Studies, presented Cristy Hynes with the award – a $1,000 cheque to help fund a child care project. Ms. Hynes, a master’s program student in Women’s Studies, plans to develop a child care program through an internship at the St. John’s Women’s Centre that specifically targets single mothers and their children, and helps them access supports.
