Alumni Association offers deals

The Memorial University Alumni Association has teamed up with RebateACause to offer a new way to support student scholarships. For users who shop through the RebateACause special shopping village, up to 15 per cent of the purchase price is donated to Memorial University’s scholarship fund – at no extra cost to the buyer. Users can take care of entire shopping lists simply by logging on to www.rebateacause.com/memorial.

“With this online shopping site, there is tremendous potential for helping current students,” said Darcy McMeekin, Alumni Affairs and Development. “This is an opportunity for people to put their everyday spending to work in supporting students at our university. In essence, your spending dollars are doing double duty.”

Launched at the end of January 2007, Alumni Affairs has already seen the benefits of this program as the very first online purchase resulted in a donation of $2.30. “This may sound insignificant,” said Mr. McMeekin, “but these small amounts add up to make a big difference. If 1,000 similar purchases were made, then an additional $2,300 would be available for scholarships.”

There are over 450 online retailers participating in this program and, if you opt to register as a member or supporter, you receive a detailed reporting of your purchases demonstrating your contribution. Merchants include Chapters Indigo, Canadian Tire and WestJet, to name just a few.
