Dr. Ian Bowmer, past dean of the Faculty of Medicine, has been appointed executive director of the Medical Council of Canada, effective Jan. 1, 2007. Dr. Bowmer is a professor of Medicine at Memorial University and served as dean of Medicine from 1996-2003, following appointments as assistant dean for Postgraduate Medical Education from 1985-88 and chair of the Discipline of Medicine from 1988-95. Dr. Bowmer is one of 13 non-government expert representatives on the 25 member council and chairs the primary health care working group and the health outcomes committee.

Dr. Peter Boswell was reappointed by the Board of Regents as interim head of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts, from July 1, 2006, to Dec. 31, 2007, or until a permanent head can assume the position.

Dr. Mary Courage was appointed by the Board of Regents as associate dean (research) in the Faculty of Science, for a three-year period from Sept. 1, 2006, to Aug. 31, 2009.

Graham Mowbray was appointed by the Board of Regents as the director of Computing and Communications effective Sept. 5, 2006.

Dr. Jeff Parsons was reappointed associate dean, research in the Faculty of Business Administration, for a one-year period from June 1, 2006, to May 31, 2007.

Dr. Peter Pope was appointed by the Board of Regents as head of the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, for a three-year period from Sept. 1, 2006, to Aug. 31, 2009.
