Papers & Presentations
Dr. Kam Hon Chu, Department of Economics, presented a paper
titled, Bank Mergers, Branch Networks, and Economic Growth in Canada: Theory
and Evidence from Canada, 1889-1926, to the Northern Finance Association annual
meeting held at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, B.C., Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2005.
The paper was one of the six papers considered for the Bank of Canada best paper
award. The same paper was presented earlier this summer at the Canadian Economics
Association Annual Meeting held at McMaster University, May 27-29.
Dr. James P. Feehan, Economics, gave a presentation at a Political
Economy Research Group workshop at the University of Western Ontario. The presentation
was titled The Renewal Clause in the Churchill Falls Contract: The Origins of
a Coming Crisis, and was given on Sept. 26.
Dr. George Rose, professor of Fisheries Conservation at the
Marine Institute, presented a keynote address to the 14th Annual Meeting of
the North Pacific Marine Science Association (PICES) in Vladivostok, Russian
Federation, titled Demersal Fish Distribution Dynamics in Boreal and Sub-Arctic
Marine Ecosystems, held Oct. 3-7, 2005. In mid-September, Dr. Rose gave an invited
lecture to the Massachusetts Marine Fish Division on the ecology of coastal
cod populations.
