Edgar George House

Dr. Edgar House, an honorary graduate of Memorial University, passed peacefully away surrounded by his family on May 16, 2006, aged 94. He was a former headmaster of Bishop Feild College, the first president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teacherís Association, executive director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Tuberculosis Association, a proud Rotarian of 56 years, and author of several books about Newfoundland and Labrador. He was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree during spring convocation 1993.

Dr. Duncan Archibald Ferguson

Dr. Duncan Ferguson, a member of the Sir Wilfred Grenfell College faculty since September 1976, passed away on May 20, 2006. Dr. Ferguson was known for his sense of humour and dedication to students, and was instrumental in the establishment of the psychology degree programs at Grenfell College. He was program chair of psychology for a number of years. At the request of Dr. Fergusonís wife and daughter, a student prize to be awarded annually is being established in his memory. The Duncan A. Ferguson prize will be awarded to a student in the final year of a BA psychology degree at Grenfell College. Dr. Doris Jean Saunders

Doris Saunders, the founding editor of Them Days magazine, died in St. Johnís on May 28 at the age of 64. She is responsible for compiling whatís been called the best heritage archive on Labrador in the world. She founded the Labrador-based publication in March 1975 and stayed as editor until 2003. She received the Order of Canada in 1986 and a honorary doctor of letters degree from Memorial during spring convocation 1994.
