Dr. Lewis (Skip) Fischer, professor of history, was awarded
an honorary doctorate by the University of Liverpool in December. The award
recognized Dr. Fischer’s significant contribution to maritime history through
publications, management of the Maritime History Archive here on campus, and
as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Maritime History.
According to the University of Liverpool, Dr. Fischer has longstanding ties
with that institution, where he has been an Honorary Research Fellow since 1997.
Dr. Mahmoud Haddara, director of Co-operative Education, represented
Memorial University at a Director’s Roundtable for Co-operative Education in
Toronto. Only a select few universities from across Canada and the U.S. were
invited to participate.
